At Dietitian Success Center, we take content quality seriously. We know that dietitians and students rely on our resources to support their practice, stay up-to-date with research, and provide high-quality education to their clients. That’s why we’ve developed our gold-standard content creation and review process to ensure that every piece of content we produce is accurate, evidence-based, and practical.
Our Main Types of Content
We create a variety of resources to support dietitians in different aspects of their work. Each type of content serves a specific purpose and follows our rigorous development and review process.
Evidence Summaries & Practitioner Guides
Our evidence summaries highlight key research findings while also summarizing practical implications, ensuring dietitians know what’s most important for clinical and client work. These are not only literature reviews, they translate the latest research into practical, evidence-based insights that dietitians can apply in real-world practice.
Practitioner Guides act as quick-reference “cheat sheets” on essential topics. These guides help dietitians access critical information at a glance, such as: Food Sources of Nutrients Compilation, Lab Values Reference Sheet, Medications Reference Sheet, Herbal Supplements Reference Sheet, and Condition-Specific Guides.
Purpose: These resources save dietitians time on research, provide real-world application, and offer quick, reliable references for client care and clinical decision-making.
Video Courses for Dietitians
Our video courses for dietitians bring evidence summaries to life, translating key concepts into engaging, easy-to-understand lessons. Courses include case studies and real-world examples to help dietitians apply what they learn. Designed for different learning styles, video content is an alternative for those who prefer visual and auditory learning. We keep our videos short and focused, aiming for less than 20 minutes per video to maintain engagement and improve knowledge retention.
Purpose: Video courses enhance learning, improve knowledge retention, and provide practical application of nutrition concepts in clinical and client settings.
Client Handouts
Designed to support dietitians in simplifying complex nutrition concepts into a client-friendly format.
Developed using plain language principles to ensure clarity and accessibility:
- Less than an 8th-grade reading level to ensure easy comprehension.
- Avoids jargon and technical terms, using language that resonates with clients.
- Focuses on clear, concise explanations that make key concepts easy to understand.
- Written with the client’s perspective in mind, ensuring that information is actionable, engaging, and applicable to real-life situations.
Crafting accessible client materials is a specialized skill. Our Content Manager has expertise in nutrition communication and has spent her career refining the skill of crafting clear, accessible, and visually engaging client materials.
Purpose: Reduces administrative burden for dietitians, ensures that client education is clear and accessible, empowers clients to make informed decisions about their nutrition and health. These handouts also enhance the professional image of dietitians by providing well-designed, visually appealing resources that reinforce credibility and support effective client communication.
Our Content Creation and Review Process
At DSC, our content goes through a multi-step development and review process to ensure accuracy, relevance, and practical application.
Step 1: Identifying Content Needs
- We listen to our members! We make it easy for them to request content based on what they need most.
- We prioritize topics based on demand, relevance to dietetic practice, and emerging research.
Step 2: Evidence Review
- We prioritize using the highest-quality research available, including:
- Practice guidelines from reputable organizations.
- Meta-analyses & Systematic Reviews that synthesize findings from multiple studies.
- Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) when higher-level evidence is not available.
- Medical Nutrition Therapy recommendations and physiology background information from high-quality textbooks that provide established, evidence-based clinical guidance.
- Evidence sources are critically analyzed to assess key findings, methodologies, and limitations before being integrated into our content.
- If high-quality research is lacking in a specific area, we acknowledge this within our content and provide practical guidance on how dietitians can navigate the uncertainty in practice.
- For example, if a client asks about a specific food for their condition but there is little research available, our evidence summaries help dietitians understand how to communicate this to their client and suggest alternative ways to support them.
- We include clear citations and an easy-to-follow numbered reference list so our members can quickly locate and explore sources for deeper understanding.
Step 3: Content Development
- Our Registered Dietitian Content Manager leads the development of each resource, ensuring that complex nutrition information is translated into clear, practical materials.
- Content is structured to be concise, engaging, and actionable, making it easy for dietitians to integrate into their practice.
- We develop a range of resources tailored to different learning and application needs.
- Each piece of content is carefully written to balance scientific accuracy with usability, ensuring that it is both evidence-based and practical for real-world application.
Step 4: Practice-Based Review
- Once the initial draft is complete, we bring in a Registered Dietitian practice reviewer with at least 5 years of practice experience in the topic area.
- This reviewer ensures that the content is not only evidence-based but also practical and applicable to real-world dietetic practice.
- Case studies and clinical examples, based on practice reviewer knowledge and experience, are added to enhance usability.
Step 5: Technical Review
- After the practice-based review, the content undergoes a final technical review by our Registered Dietitian team, where we:
- Double-check numerical values and clinical details.
- Proofread for grammar, spelling, and clarity.
- Verify that references are formatted correctly and accurately reflect the evidence used.
Step 6: Final Formatting & Distribution
- Once the content has passed all levels of review, it is finalized and published.
- Depending on the content type, it may be reformatted into client or practitioner resources.
Keeping Content Up-to-Date
Science is always evolving, and so is our content. We have a structured process for updates to ensure our resources remain current and evidence-based.
- Scheduled Updates: We aim to update our content every 12-36 months to reflect the latest research, guidelines, and improvements in our ever-evolving content formatting.
- Priority Updates: If new research or practice guidelines emerge sooner, we fast-track updates to ensure our members always have the most up-to-date information.
- Member Feedback: We actively monitor feedback from members and make continuous improvements to enhance clarity, accessibility, and practicality.
We believe that by maintaining this gold-standard process, we can empower dietitians with the knowledge and tools they need to provide exceptional care and advance their practice with confidence.
