In this episode of the Dietitian Success Podcast, I answer three questions that come up all the time for dietitian entrepreneurs: how to stay focused when you have too many ideas, how to handle disappointment after a launch, and whether online courses are still worth it in the age of AI.
We talk about how to manage shiny object syndrome without losing creativity, how to evaluate your launch results using real data (instead of emotion), and how to rethink your offers so they stay relevant in a changing landscape.
Inside, we cover:
- Why entrepreneurs are naturally drawn to new ideas (and how that can derail your progress)
- A simple system to capture ideas without acting on them immediately
- How to tell the difference between a good idea vs. a distraction
- Why most launches aren’t actually failures—and how to evaluate them properly
- What realistic conversion rates look like for email lists and online offers
- Why audience size plays a bigger role than you think in launch success
- How to reframe disappointment so it actually helps you move forward
- What’s changing about online courses in the age of AI
- Why purely informational products are becoming less valuable
- What AI cannot replace (and how to build that into your offers)
- Simple ways to evolve your course to make it more impactful and sellable
Whether you’re feeling pulled in different directions, questioning your last launch, or wondering how to adapt your business in today’s world, this episode will help you refocus and move forward with clarity.

Shiny Object Syndrome, Failed Launches, and Selling Courses in the Age of AI
If you’ve ever felt pulled in a million directions in your business, disappointed after a launch, or unsure whether your online course still makes sense in today’s AI-driven world… you’re not alone.
In this episode of The Dietitian Success Podcast, we break down three common challenges dietitian entrepreneurs face—and how to navigate them with more clarity and confidence.
1. Shiny Object Syndrome: How to Stay Focused in Your Business
As entrepreneurs, we’re wired to love ideas.
The problem? Not every idea is worth pursuing.
The creation phase can feel exciting—even addictive. But that excitement can pull you away from the work that actually moves your business forward.
A Simple System to Manage New Ideas
One of the most effective strategies is simple:
➡️ Create an “ideas for the future” list
Instead of acting on every idea:
- Write it down in a task management tool (Asana, ClickUp, etc.)
- Get it out of your brain and into a system
This reduces mental load and helps you stay focused.
Give Your Ideas Time Before Acting
Before executing on a new idea:
- Wait at least one week
- Don’t start working on it immediately
If it still feels exciting after time has passed, it may be worth pursuing. If not, it was likely just novelty—not strategy.
The Real Trap: Avoiding What’s Not Working
Sometimes new ideas aren’t about innovation—they’re about avoidance.
➡️ Instead of fixing something that didn’t work, it feels easier to start something new.
But in most cases:
➡️ Refining an existing offer is more effective than starting over
2. “Failed” Launches: How to Evaluate What Actually Happened
Let’s reframe this:
➡️ There is no such thing as a failed launch—only data
Every launch gives you insight into what works and what doesn’t.
Why Most Launches Feel Disappointing
Often, the issue isn’t performance—it’s expectations.
If you don’t understand typical conversion rates, it’s easy to assume something didn’t work when it actually performed normally.
Understanding Funnel Math
A funnel is the process from:
- Someone discovering you
- To becoming a paying client
One of the most important benchmarks:
➡️ Email list conversion rates: 1–4%
Example:
- Email list = 100 people
- Sales = 1–2 people
➡️ That’s a normal (and successful) conversion rate
What This Means for Your Business
If your launch didn’t meet expectations, ask:
- Was my audience size large enough?
- Were my expectations realistic?
- Do I need to refine the offer—or grow my audience?
Often, the answer is:
➡️ You don’t need a new offer—you need more people
The Mindset Shift That Changes Everything
If you label a launch as a failure, you’re less likely to try again.
Instead:
➡️ Treat every result as progress toward what works
3. Are Online Courses Still Worth It in the Age of AI?
With tools like ChatGPT, information is more accessible than ever.
So where does that leave online courses?
The Reality: Information Alone Has Lost Value
If your course is purely informational:
➡️ It’s easier for people to get that information elsewhere
What AI Cannot Replace
The real value now comes from:
- Human connection
- Support and accountability
- Personalized guidance
- Community
- Lived experience
How to Adapt Your Course
Instead of scrapping your course, evolve it:
➡️ Add a community component
➡️ Include group coaching or live calls
➡️ Offer 1:1 support
➡️ Focus on implementation, not just information
A Key Insight
People don’t always know what to ask AI.
Your role as a dietitian is to:
➡️ Curate, interpret, and apply information in a meaningful way
